June 2016

During the month of May, we enjoyed a WIDE variety of things to eat, see, and do.  We sampled new foods including homemade churros (a sweet Mexican dessert served on Cince de Mayo), no-bake cheesecake, and fried seafood from The Clambox in Ipswich.  We enjoyed the gorgeous flowers at Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, danced the night away with the Dave Burbank Orchestra, spent a day with the wolves at Wolf Hollow and celebrated Memorial Day with a delicious buffet and music courtesy of John Rampino.

Now that we are in June, we are looking forward to taking advantage of the warm weather with more outings and programs.  Enjoy our "Snapshot of May" below with photos and videos of the above-mentioned activities.

¡CINCO DE MAYO!
On Thursday, May 5 we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a delicious buffet luncheon prepared by Bob Hill and his dining team.  Residents created their own tacos and burritos with a variety of toppings.  For dessert we enjoyed homemade churros that were very well received.  We loved them so much, that we convinced Bob to occasionally feature them in the dessert rotation.

The taco bar offered a variety of options for residents to customize their lunch

TOWER HILL BOTANIC GARDENS

Tower Hill Botanic Gardens in Boylston hosted their "Daffodil Days" exhibit on Wednesday, May 3.  Though Mother Nature did not allow for the bounty of daffodils we were hoping for, the assortment of gorgeous tulips more than made up for it.

AROUND THE COMMUNITY
Check out our fantastic Fitness Specialist, Mary Annati, in action during her SPICE in Motion exercise classes below.
Mary does such a great job keeping us all fit, that we don't even feel guilty enjoying desserts like the No-Bake Cheesecake, the exercise clearly cancels out the calories...right?

STEPPIN' OUT INTO SPRING

Not that we've ever needed an excuse to throw a party, but the arrival of spring seemed to be reason enough for another dance and cocktail party.  The Dave Burbank Orchestra provided the music while dancers from The Metronome Ballroom were on-hand to give everyone an opportunity to get out on the dance floor.  Hot hors d'oeuvres were served alongside complimentary drinks as residents danced the night away.

 LAMBERT'S GARDENS

You know spring has arrived when we take our annual trip to purchase flowers for our gardens.  This year we went to Lambert's in Westwood and brought many beautiful plants and flowers back home to brighten up our landscape.  Many thanks to our Vibrant Living Assistant, Annie as well as our friends in Maintenance for helping out with the heavy lifting and transportation of the flowers!

WOLF HOLLOW

On Wednesday, May 25, a large group took the long trip up to Ipswich, MA to experience Wolf Hollow. During our visit, residents were given a unique opportunity to meet the resident gray wolves and enjoyed an enlightening one-hour educational presentation during which they were able to observe the wolves interacting with their pack-mates at close range. Following the presentation at Wolf Hollow, the group enjoyed lunch at the nearby Clambox Restaurant which was met with rave reviews.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

The Crosbey Dining Room Lobby was all decked out for the annual Memorial Day Buffet while patriotic mini-cupcakes were baked and served in Aldridge House to commemorate the holiday.

We will see you again at the start of July with more updates and photos from the Vibrant Living Department.
