APRIL 2016

Sunday Music Festival
with
The Ross Petot Band

Residents enjoyed an afternoon of swing and melody drawn from the Great American Songbook. The Ross Petot Band performed hits from Gershwin, Ellington, Porter, Arlen and more!

The Atwater-Donnelly Duo

Armed with an unusual collection of instruments including the mountain dulcimer, tin whistle, limberjacks, and feet - Elwood and Aubrey Atwater delivered a program that was described by one resident as "the very best we've had".  The unique and thrilling blend of traditional American and Celtic folk music and dance left the entire audience in awe of their talents. What does any good Program Director do after a successful event?  Book them again - soon! Aubrey and Elwood will be joining us  along with fiddler, cellist and vocalist Cathy Clasper-Torch in the fall as the Atwater-Donnelly Trio.

Be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 7th from 2-3pm to see
The Atwater-Donnelly Trio!

Enjoy the video and photos of Aubrey and Elwood's program below...

Limberjacks, or jig dolls, are traditional wooden or tin-plate 'toys' for adults or children. They are dolls with loose limbs that step dance or 'jig' on the end of a vibrating board or platform in imitation of a real step dancer.

The Emerald Isle Theme Dinner

It has become a tradition to enjoy a few drinks before each of our theme dinners, and St. Patrick's Day was certainly no exception.  Marilyn was behind the bar serving Guinness and green wine! As we drew closer to dinner, a sea of green entered into the dining room as the Guinness stew was served from the kitchen.  Richard Travers played familiar Irish favorites on the keyboard as residents enjoyed the festive decor.

CHALLENGER:
SOARING WITH CHRISTA

During the Challenger program, we were all reminded once again just how talented Judith Kalaora really is.  Her latest program on Christa MacAuliffe gave the audience an opportunity to understand who Christa was outside of her teacher/astronaut rolesThe audience was invited into her life before NASA - we discovered the events that led to Christa's interest in the space program and how her family truly shaped who she wasJudith did a wonderful job of carefully balancing the emotional intensity of the story with inspiration and hope on the 30th anniversary of the Challenger Launch.  Many thanks to Judith for another outstanding program!

*If you would like to see the program, please refer to Judith's website: History at Play for information on future dates and locations.
